Stupid, Stupider, Stupidest
by: Karl Trieste
He looked at the electric plug of the electric fan. He saw the side-by-side metal prongs of the plug. He held the plug, with the forefinger between the metal prongs, touching it then plugged it in the electric outlet. The electric current was live, and so expect the expected...
He was very young then, a boy of about 2 years old. He knew then that when he plugged it the electric fan goes on. He didn't know that touching the metal parts of the plug would electrocute him. His finger was swollen because of the electric shock he got.
Now he is a grown man, and Simon and two of his friends John and Baldo were looking at an old pick-up truck, inspecting it. It was an old, red double-cab pick-up truck, of a well-known Japanese make but very very old. It was not in running condition.
"Well, do you like it?" asked the mechanic who also acted as a sales agent for the vehicle for sale. "I don't know, what do you think John?" asked Simon. "Well, Baldo, you're the mechanic here, why don't you take a look at it?" replied John, passing the errand to Baldo who is now inspecting the vehicle.
"The engine was replaced with a diesel engine?" Baldo asked the mechanic/salesman whose name was Tuso. "Yes, I brought it just recently to a machine shop to have it 'rebored', and the body was also repaired," declared Tuso in a very confident manner.
Now Simon was thinking and talking to himself. I don't know what 'rebored' is. What is he talking about?
Baldo has just finished inspecting the truck. "The engine was replaced, no longer original, the body was repaired," he paused, as if contemplating, then continued, "Ok, I think it's a good buy," referring to Simon.
"How much is it?" Simon asked the mechanic/salesman. "The whole thing is about 50,000.00 pesos. But I'll let you meet up with the owner's friend who can transact with you on behalf of the owner. Come back tomorrow so you can talk with him...in the meantime, since this is not in running condition and it needs repainting and re-upholstery, I can do all of that for you...all you have to do is make an advance payment of 16,000.00 pesos so I can start right away," Tuso replied, hoping to get the deal on the repairs.
"All right then, I'll give you the advance, and you can start right away," Simon said, and handed to Tuso an envelope containing the advance. "Let's go," said Simon, inviting his friends John and Baldo to leave from the place.
The location of the mechanic/salesman's (Tuso's) repair shop was in a place they call "Smallgrass", although there is not much grass in the place anymore. The road was in a hilly place, and it was not a busy street and there were very few people in the place.
Simon parted with his friends John and Baldo and went home.
